Italia Online (Iol), Italy's first major service provider will be supporting and promoting International Chess Week in a number of interesting ways. First it will be giving Scaccomatto its own Web site with a Home Page listing tournament dates and a list of players as well as a variety of cultural information. The site will also offer Chess Week highlights and provide facilities for the direct completion and mailing of application forms to the Organising Committee from the applicant's own PC. For the further benefit of chess fans this Web site will not be closed down on December 15 but will remain active so that Scaccomatto will be able to keep its public informed about subsequent events. Italia Online is offering other services as well. During International Chess Week it will provide participants with a series of Internet stations from which they can surf cyberspace aided by ILO's specialised staff. These sites will also be usable for playing virtual chess games with other cybernants around the world.
