Iordachescu,Viorel (2601) – Georgiev,Vladimir (2553) [A20]

CIS, serie Master Condino ITA (3), 01.05.2014

.c4 e5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2 Nc6 4.Nc3 g6 5.a3 Bg7 6.b4 d6 7.Rb1! With this move I understood that my opponent was prepared against me! I played early this year 7.bxc5 dxc5 8.Bxc6+ bxc6 9.e4 h5 10.d3 h4=+ Andersen,M (2497)-Georgiev,V (2553)

…Nge7 8.b5 Na5 I decided during the game to not lose a time and to try to play actively immediately.I should play actively because if not, my Knight on a5 is out of the game. 8…Nd4!? Probably this is a better move. Keeping the Knight into the center! 9.e3 Ne6 10.Nge2 00 11.00 Rb8 (11…Nc7 12.Qb3 Rb8 13.d3 b6)

.d3 h6 My idea is to stop Bg5, so that I have control over key square d5!

.e4! White stops Black’s idea Be6 and d5, and so to play later on King side with f4 – using black Knight on a5 out of the game!

…0–0 11.Nge2 f5! with idea f4 to get space advantage on King side!

.exf5! 12.00? f4! 13.f3 (13.gxf4 exf4 14.Axf4 Axc3) 13…g5-+ check the game Aronian-Grishchuk , 2012, Kazan if you want to study this type of position.

…Bxf5! I need to keep my pieces open and active! 12…gxf5? 13.Nd5±

.0–0 Kh7?! I missed the next move of my opponent. 13…Be6 this is better.with idea d5! 14.Nd5 Nxd5 15.cxd5 Bf5 16.Nc3 c4

.Nd5! I was thinking that this move is not working due to Nc4 but white has the strong move g4 winning a piece!

…Nxd5 14…Nxc4? 15.Nxe7 Qxe7 16.g4!± removing my Bishop! 16…Bxg4 17.dxc4

.Bxd5

Here I thought a lot.. I understood that my previous move Kh7 was a mistake, and if I continue to play normal chess my opponent will develop pieces and will be clearly better due to weak light squares d5 and e4 and bad Knight on a5.

…Nxc4!! I was happy during the game when I found that idea! Now the game totally changes! From calm positional play we get unbalanced and unclear position. Now I have no more problems with the bad Knight on a5 and can attack White King. Also for me is much more easy to play now. I need just to develop my pieces into the center and King side. White has to take difficult decisions on how to continue now. 15…a6 16.Nc3 axb5 17.Nxb5 Nc6 18.f3±

.Bxc4 d5! that was my idea after N-sacrifice.White pieces are far away from his own King and I can start to attack it!

.Ba2! The move I expected! 17.Bb3 c4 18.Bc2 cxd3 19.Bxd3 Bh3 20.Re1 Qf6

…Bg4!! Now it’s easy to see my idea. Bf3, Qd7 and Qh3!

.h3! Iordachescu surprised me with this strong move! 18.f3 Mostly I calculate this move during the game. 18…Bxf3! (18…Rxf3 19.Rxf3 Bxf3 20.Qf1 e4 21.Be3 (21.Bb2 Bxb2 22.Rxb2 Qf6 23.Rb1 Rf8) 21…c4) 19.Be3 Qd6 20.Qe1 c4 21.dxc4 d4

…Bf3 I decided to continue to attack the enemy King but I missed the 22nd move of my opponent! 18…Bxh3!? 19.Nc3 Be6 20.Bd2 Qd7 with long lasting compensation.

.Qd2 Rf5 Put more pieces into attack.

.Kh2 Rh5 21.Ng1 Qd7 22.Bb3! With the idea Bd1 to exchange my most important piece, after that my attack is over!

…Bg4 I was lucky that I can win a second pawn, so that the game continues again.

.Bd1 Bxh3 24.Bxh5 Bxf1

Here white has a lot of choices. That makes his decision more difficult.Anyway after all moves black has compensation due to active pieces, good pawn center and weak White king after h4!

.Bxg6+ He missed my very strong 27th move! 25.Bb2 Probably this is best! 25…gxh5 26.Rxf1 Rf8 Develop last piece! Most active way to play! (26…Qxb5 take third pawn for a piece) 27.a4 h4 28.Re1 d4

…Kxg6 26.Bb2 Bxd3! 27.Qxd3+ Qf5!! Now Black is out of dangers. White should exchange the Queens after that Black has very active King and strong passed pawns.White should play all the time good moves now, not to lose immediately!

.Qxf5+ Kxf5 29.Nf3! From now till the end my opponent played the best moves!

…d4 30.Nd2! He fights against my passed pawns!

…Ke6 Activate the King!

.f3 Kd5 32.Rc1 32.Ne4 c4 (32…Bf8) 33.Kg2 Bf8=+

…h5! 33.Ne4 c4 34.Kg2 a6 35.b6 a5 35…Rc8 36.a4 c3 37.Nxc3+ dxc3 38.Rxc3 (38.Bxc3) 38…Rxc3 39.Bxc3 Kc4 40.Ba1 Kb4 41.f4

.Rb1! Ra6 37.Ba1 Only move. Defend the pawn on b6 and stop c3!

…Kc6 37…c3? 38.Nxc3+ (38.Rb5+ Kc6 39.Rc5+ Kxb6 40.a4 Ra8 41.Rb5+ Kc6 42.Nxc3 dxc3 43.Bxc3) 38…dxc3 39.Bxc3

.Rc1 Kd5 39.Rb1 Kc6 40.Rc1 Kd5 41.Rb1 Really good game.Both players played wery well!

½–½
